Introduction
Wicklow Working Together is a community based organisation working towards social inclusion in Wicklow town and its environs. Since its incorporation in 1997, it has been delivering social inclusion programmes funded by the state through Area Development Management Ltd (ADM). Wicklow Working Together is currently delivering a transition programme between the Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP) 2001 – 2006 and the new Social Inclusion Programme which will be launched in 2008. The Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP) is designed to counter disadvantage and to promote equality and social and economic inclusion. The programme seeks to encourage sustainable local development that targets the most marginalised individuals, communities and areas. The company also implements the Millennium Partnership Fund for Disadvantage: Access to Third Level Education.
WWT was instrumental in the establishment of Wicklow Child & Family Project in 2002. Wicklow Child & Family Project provides child and family support in Wicklow Town and its environs. WWT has a service level agreement with the Health Service Executive – East Coast Area (HSE-ECA) to manage and administer this project.
The company also hosts the worker of Wicklow Community Platform (WCP) and carries out administration for the Platform. WCP is a network of community groups who are working towards social inclusion in County Wicklow. The Community Development Project (CDP) for Rathnew, Croí Rath Naoi, has been established under the management/administration of WWT and the company hosts the Project Co-ordinator .
The catchment area of Wicklow Working Together covers the following 6 electoral districts: Wicklow Urban, Wicklow Rural, Glenealy, Dunganstown East, Killiskey and Newcastle Lower. The population of these six ED’s is 17,393 (Census 2002).
